Reaction to red tattoo ink in the setting of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome

Tattooing is the procedure of implanting permanent pigment granules and additives into the dermal layer of the skin, serving various purposes such as decoration, medical identification, or accidental markings. There has been a significant rise in the popularity of decorative tattooing as a form of body art among both teenagers and young adults. Thus, the incidence of tattoos is increasing, with expanding applications such as permanent makeup, scar camouflage, nipple–areola, lips, and eyebrows tattooing, and utilization in oncological radiotherapy such as colon marking. However, there

Impact of different dietary patterns on blood lipid levels in patients with and without type 2 diabetes

We aimed to examine whether dietary patterns that explain the variation of triglyceride (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio were associated with the incidence of type 2 diabetes in Korean adults. We included a total of 5097 adults without diabetes at baseline with a mean follow-up of 11.54 years. Usual diet was assessed by a validated food frequency questionnaire, and serum levels of TG and HDL-C were measured at baseline. We derived dietary pattern scores using 41 food groups as predictors and the TG/HDL-C ratio as a response variable in a stepwise linear regression.

Bilateral serous epithelial detachment after starting therapy with Erdafitinib

This report aims to describe a case of bilateral, multifocal neurosensory retinal detachments that developed during erdafitinib therapy for metastatic urothelial carcinoma. A case report with color fundus imaging and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography imaging is presented. A 50-year-old man with metastatic urothelial carcinoma had an unremarkable baseline ophthalmic examination prior to starting erdafitinib. At 3-month follow up, an examination revealed bilateral, multifocal retinal detachments. Because the patient was asymptomatic and erdafitinib was the only drug to which his tu

Hyperlipidemia in the presence of painless obstructive jaundice secondary to pancreatic cancer

Gallbladder disease is one of the most common gastrointestinal tract diseases. In obstructive jaundice, there is a reduction in bile flow out of the liver secondary to the blocked bile or pancreatic duct, which leads to excess bile and its products accumulating in the blood. One of these products is lipoprotein X (LpX); its presence is associated with a lipoprotein pattern characterized by an increased concentration of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Few published articles have reported the association between obstructive jaundice and hyperlipidemia. This report describes a uniqu

Outpatient antimicrobial practices of a large academic center

This study sought to analyze the outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) services provided by a tertiary hospital, in terms of types and duration of antimicrobials administered, and assess whether these services were in line with current good practice recommendations. The electronic healthcare records of all stable patients with infectious diseases, aged ≥ 18 years, who received OPAT services between January 2019 and March 2021, were analyzed. For statistical analysis, the patients were divided into younger (< 65 years) and older (≥ 65 years) adults and the difference be
